In Memory of Lucy

Lucy “Lucille” Gabor

Lucy was born on March 18th, 2003 in Heber City, Utah.  I always knew that a dog needed to be a part of my new family and God put Lucy in our path.  From the moment we first met Lucy, our lives have been filled with love, laughter, exercise, companionship, and peace.  It is amazing to be loved by someone so much unconditionally, every hour of every day.  After Lucy joined our family, she was followed by our two sons, Nicholas in 2004 and Noah in 2007.  Lucy was our best friend and her presence and spirit will never be replaced.  We are so fortunate to have had Lucy, our Angel, in our lives for over 16 years.  Lucy passed away on June 24th, 2019 at 12:01 pm at home in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Life Milestones, Loves, and Mischief for Lucy

  • Lucy has walked, run, climbed, hiked, pranced (she was after all, a Standard Poodle), and skied approximately 10,000 miles.
  • Patiently waited and caught six gophers (and brought one home to show-off)
  • Stole three peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from our friend, George on three different backcountry ski trips (she was a surprisingly stealth thief)
  • Helped break trail on multiple ski outings
  • Wore a $60 set of booties for said ski outings for 10 minutes before they were lost
  • Bit a hole in the rear end of Frank’s ski pants when he won their race to the bottom of the mountain
  • Chased innumerable deer, rabbits, and squirrels, but never caught any
  • Stole and ate an entire side of smoked salmon at a friend’s Christmas buffet
  • Ate much of Nicholas’ bag of Halloween candy one year
  • She tried to eat Easter candy this year, but was caught in the act because she tried to get away from the scene with a jellybean stuck in her paw
  • Ate a wooden replica of a boat from New Zealand (am I sensing a theme here?)
  • Went on many camping and backpacking trips, including two snow camping trips
  • Her favorite hike was to Dog Lake in Millcreek Canyon in Utah. She loved swimming in the lake to retrieve sticks we threw from the shore.
  • Lucy always had to lead our expeditions. If she got sidetracked sniffing or chasing an animal, she quickly passed us to resume her rightful position.
  • Lucy loved her stuffed animals. In fact, she still has her favorite hedgehog from when we first brought her home.
  • Lucy far preferred whatever we were eating to what she was supposed to be eating
  • Loved playing “catch” but would have to be bribed with treats to give back the ball
  • Loved barking at other dogs, people, leaves, or nothing passing by our house as she stood sentry on our deck
  • Spent two summers being tormented by a ground squirrel family living in the rocks in our backyard
  • Immensely enjoyed partaking in our evening snacks (ok, mostly mine)
  • Lucy was an excellent alarm system for our home. She would bark before someone was even at the door.
  • Lucy might have been a poodle, but she had the nose of a bloodhound. Walks often took twice as long to allow for her sniffing time.
  • She seemed to have an uncanny knack for being in the way
  • Her fur was as soft as velvet and petting her was mutually beneficial to everyone who did so. If you were very brave, her favorite spot for scratching was under her ear flaps.  If you were willing to do this, you were rewarded with a deep, “grrrr” of contentment.
  • Lucy had a sleeping mat in every room so she could be with us at all times. However, you had to wait for her to get the mat just so as she scratched furiously at it with her paws.
  • She was potty trained in less than a day and passed obedience school with an A
  • She loved being with us more than anything and us with her. We will miss her more than words can say.

Until we meet again, you will always be in our hearts.

We love you.
