Dear Watson,
The moment we saw you on Adopt a Pet we knew you were the one for us. It seems like only yesterday we were driving to Connecticut to pick you up and bring you back to our home in Marblehead where you started your journey with us. That was one of the happiest days of our lives. We learned quickly that you were a timid boy who loved playing ball and with your toys, especially anything that squeaked. On your first Thanksgiving you curled up on the couch drifting off to sleep with all the good smells in the house surrounding you. We discovered you loved turkey. Sharing freshly roasted turkey with you became a tradition we cherished. You traveled with us by car across the country back to Portland and were such a good boy. Those 6 days we shall never forget. When you arrived at your new home, complete with a fenced-in backyard, you grabbed your ball and did this funny twirling happy dance that became your ritual before going outside each and every time. We will never forget the joy in your eyes.
When you were diagnosed with lymphoma the day after Thanksgiving in 2021, we were devastated. You had only been with us for 5 short years. I asked you to fight with all your might and that you did for 7 months with a comprehensive treatment plan created by your oncologist, Dr. Dowling at VCA Northwest. As chemotherapy stopped working, you started winding down, no longer enjoying the many things that brought you happiness every day. Saying goodbye was the hardest and saddest moment of our lives with you. We hope you felt peace being in your happiest of places, outside on the patio with the smell of newly mown grass and the soothing sound of the fountain in the background. When you passed, I saw the tiniest flicker in your eyes and felt a warm sensation rush over me. Finally, you were no longer uncomfortable and laboring to breathe…
I have no doubt our sweet Murphy boy was there to help you cross the rainbow bridge. We will always love you Watson Boy and cherish every day we had with you. See you on the other side my love…
Teri
